The Ostomy Association of the Houston Area

We help ourselves by helping others to help themselves.
Affiliated with the United Ostomy Associations of America, Inc.

About This Support Group

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit, self-governing organization of volunteers. Members are ostomates, their families, ostomy (ET) nurses, surgical suppliers, physician advisors and other interested persons.

The purpose of the Houston area support group is to aid patients and their families in the practical and emotional adjustments to an ostomy. We offer rehabilitation help but do not provide medical advice. Nothing in this site should be interpreted as medical advice.

Methods used are mutual support, sharing of experiences and practical advice.

Activities include visiting new ostomates, educational meetings, teaching through literature and audio-visual presentations, lectures and discussions with health care personnel and the public.

Our Support Group cooperates with the American Cancer Society and other organizations, institutions, and individuals dedicated to the rehabilitation of ostomates.

Membership is open to anyone interested in the goals of the association.

Benefits: Periodicals, "how to" publications, participation in local, regional and national meetings, youth rallies, latest information on ostomy management, fellowship and opportunity to help others.

Dues: $25.00 payable to the Ostomy Association of the Houston Area, includes the monthly Houston Area Support Group Newsletter.
